Who is Heather Ann Shannon?
Growing up in central Alberta, Canada, in the 1980s, I learned to be self-reliant and independent. Struggling to fit in with others my age, I fell into worlds of my own. Creating spaces and adventures allowed me to transmute pain into passion and art. Making art and painting has been my pleasure since childhood, immersing myself in the depths of exploration. This love has evolved into other creative endeavours such as wire wrapping, woodworking, and writing. After penning my first romance at thirteen, I catapulted myself into the written word, dreaming up scenes and characters that come to life inside the rich fabric of my mind to escape the troubles of daily life.
Now that my children are grown, I’ve discovered that I have the time and space to indulge in creative endeavours with the wholehearted blessing of my fantastic husband and life partner. With his support and strength, I know I can chase this dream of mine to fruition and share little bits of myself without fear.
As a visual artist and author, I enjoy bringing my worlds to life. Sketching out maps and drawing my characters’ tools, places, and faces are ways to share my inner topography with you. I commit to sharing these unique places with you during the creation process.
I write short stories and poetry. When the words refuse to flow, I refill my creative well by drawing, painting, and editing my photographs.
A Moment of Truth
This will be an avenue of recovery for me. Sharing this comes from a place of extreme vulnerability. You see, I am terrified of oversharing, of being called out as attention seeking, and feeling inauthentic, but that’s the hitch. I, like you, am unique. No one’s voice is the same. Mine is as important as yours, and I am ready to share mine with you. And after years of agonizing over details, struggling with self-doubt and crippling anxiety, I promise to find the courage to step forward and share my work with you but don’t expect this to be an easy thing. I will be learning and growing alongside you. This web page has been a struggle for me for years and won’t become amazing overnight, but with your engagement, it can become successful.
What am I currently up to?
Inspired by authors like Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Neal Shusterman, and Ursula K. Le Guin, I will bring you an escape-worthy realm of fantasy. It starts with a Science Fiction-Esque action epic novel, Asperatus, due in 2025. What’s it about?
